Lil Dunk and her l'il snips make Wednesday nights fun

Well, its Wednesday night again, and its slowing down a little here at Chpaters 934. O.k., no its not. There was a 20 minute break between those last two sentences because it is still pretty busy. Now my other cashier has gone home, so I am alone.

In lieu of romance title night, Stephen and I have been passing our own judgements on the entries for the bookmark contest. (kids aged 6-12) Seriously, there are some interesting kids out there, and there are some who are really bad at drawing and colouring. We were probably too harsh on some of the entries, but only one person can win anyway, so the kids have to learn how to deal with rejection sooner or later. Plus, a lot of them are just not that good. Hey, its not like I could draw back then either.

I am now installed in the new house and it has been great so far. It is so fun to get a hug from Denise as soon as she gets home from work, and great to spend a morning with Ashley discussing the divine JTW. Yay, and plus I don't have to walk home. Double Yay.

As 50% of my "devoted" readers know, I am having a week free of certain distractions, and so far it has been very clarifying. It definitely helps that I have been working cash most of this week, and so have been distracted from previous said distractions by cutey mccutersons aplenty.

Why are people so obsessed? Why? ?

Thoughts?

My name is Jenny

To the customer who berated and belittled me for 5 minutes today over something that I had absolutely no control:

I hope that you feel good about bullying people to get free stuff.

I hope you know what a jerk you are, and when Karma comes around, you'll be a water buffalo in the next life going into labour while stuck in the mud.

I hope your free $10 gift card brings you ample trouble, and that the book you buy with it brings you nothing but disappointment.

I hope you lose your job and are forced to work retail at a store not nearly as nice as Chapters, where you are berated and belittled on a daily basis. But not by me. No, not me. That ain't how I roll. Remember, though, I do have evil powers, and people get hurt when I'm cursing their names. Its true. Ask Denise.

588 is the cagiest number

Inventory is a job I should never, never do.

Cut to me last night at 11:30 pm counting boxes of greeting cards and having a minor nervous breakdown. There actually were tears of frustration and rage in my eyes. What we actually were doing last night was double counting what the real inventory people had just counted, and I could not make the numbers they got match the numbers I got. I am fully aware that this is due to my inability to count and use a calculator. Numbers are just not logical to me. Anyway, there was one box at the end that had 588 cards in it. The first time I counted it I got 580. So, I rubbed my temples with slightly shaking hands and started to recount. When I only had a few cards left, my calculator (or me, I have no delusions about my math retardation) suddenly said 3318. That was the moment my laughter took on a hystrical tinge, the tears were dangerously close, and every swear word I have ever heard was on the tip of my tongue. Thankfully, that was also the time that Finula (an absolute saint of a woman), the woman who was the head inventory honcho, came to my rescue and showed me an easier way to count which took about a quarter of the time. (I think she saw that I was mere moments from hurling every single greeting card outside and starting the best bonfire ever!)
Anyway, we were out of the store by midnight, and we headed to Denny's for a fried food fiesta. Can I just say, the mini cheeseburgers were to die for!

On a happier work note, I am taking my resume to the Exhibition grounds where the 2 event coordinators are both attempting to look for other jobs. It would be nice to have an adult job and be able to pay some student loans. It would also be nice to have my own office and be somewhat challenged on a daily basis.

Wish me luck!!

Its not imaginary if three people hear it

"If only I was taller, or had a million dollars"...

Today I will be working 6:00pm until 2:00am doing magazine inventory. Is that not the craziest shift? The worst part is that everyone who has grown-up jobs had yesterday off, and so I am a hobo today. On some level it is a good thing as I will be able to start packing for the big move this weekend. I really like moving, but I detest packing, so I should probably just get down to it today. No procrastinating. Start. Anytime.

Yeah, I don't think that's going to happen for a couple of hours at least.

I absolutely can not wait to be in the new house. It will be so nice to only have to walk a few feet to bed as opposed to a few blocks. And I'm sure Denise will be glad to not have to drive me anymore. And when Braden is a full fledged driver again he will be able to cut his driving home time in half, and not be subjected to my post-midnight conversations. (1:00am is such a nice time)

Well, everyone who is working, enjoy your day, and think of me this evening while you are going to bed and I am counting magazines.

Here comes the sun, and I say...

WWL is melting into Spring Fever and I am going crazy!! Or maybe its just Valentine's Day, I can't quite be sure. Nonetheless, I was finding it hard to fight the urge to throw down co-workers and customers alike last night. (Denise, where is a driveway when you need one, or a Wilson for that matter... oh, you know I mean Luke) Especially Cutey McCuterson, my fellow cashier with his dark curly hair... I have a sickness, quick, think of Reid and Christina.

O.k., with that trouble averted, let's talk about Denise's post today, andhow I will copy her. I wasn't listening during all of those "scary" plagarism talks every year at the University of Alberta. So,

I am a sucker for:
1. Boys with dark hair
2. Italian food
3. 5th Avenue at night
4. Appetizers
5. Jazz Music
6. Bubble gum
7. crooked smiles
8. guys who read
9. poetry
10. the colour pink
11. babies named Sam Roberts(on)
12. tenors
13. soft comfortable couches
14. hugs
15. accessories (shoes, purses, jewellery)
16. Dimples
17. Delicious jeans
18. London
19. Nathan Fillion
20.Elder "Lionel Richie" King the third (Ha Ha!!)

Nights of sin with the ranching vampire...

It's Wednesday night and that means only one thing here at Chapitres 934: Romance Title Search. A shout out to Kevin who spent a good 30 minutes in Romance to get me a great title, "Express Male" However, here are some of the other titles we garnered today.

1.Pregnant by the Millionaire
2. Taken by the Sheikh (is anyone noticing that these books seem to be about sex??)
3. The Prodigal Valentine (quite apropos, I think)
4.Falling for the Texas Tycoon (is Texas sexy? I just don't see it...)
5. Warrior or Wife (??)
6. Enslave me Sweetly (there is nothing more tender and romantic than a life of servitude)
7. How to abduct a Highland Lord (I do love a man in a skirt)

In the romance section there is a few common themes (besides the obvious, of course). Highlanders, Texans (tycoons and the like), and Vampires are the most popular. So, a recipe for the best selling romance novel would have to include a love triangle with a Highland Vampire and a Texas Tycoon. Yay! I won't need to be pleasured in the billionaire's bed because I'll already have a billion dollars.

"I'm 13 again, am I 13 for good?"

Here is a recipe for a diastrous week:

1 cup of heartbreak (even imaginary heartbreak will do)
plethora of married younger sisters with babies and babies on the way
1 realization that you may never get married and have said babies
2 hours of cycle counting Manga at work
1 greyhound bus ride with creepy guy constantly staring at you
1000 feet of snow
a burgeoning cold/flu
"The Secret" DVD and book (ask me. I dare you.)
being touched by a strange man at work who also jokingly(?) asked to borrow $30

This has been a weird and emo-like week. I am waiting eagerly for it to be over. However, I think that a girls night tonight will certainly aid with the healing.

Denise. The song found me in a big way. It is ''So Unsexy" by Alanis Morrisette. Here is the chorus:

"I can feel so unsexy for someone so beautiful
so unloved for someone so fine
I can feel so boring for someone so interesting
so ignorant for someone of sound mind"

Yay!

the lady's guide to rakes

If you are in anyway able, please come buy books at Chapters! Please!

It is unbelievably dead, and unless you have a broken/destroyed ankle, you need to come and give me something to do so that I am not tempted to blog at work. This is a no-no according to the company.

Anyway, I really don't have a lot to say besides I am glad to be back in this crazy town, and excited to start moving my stuff down the street. Thanks Flick for the big room which I can now start to fill with book shelves. I think book shelves will be the new notebooks for me. I can never have enough...

Who needs love when you have an iPod?

I am in love with my iPod! Seriously, it is up and running, and I am obsessed with listening to it. It's so pretty and it has so much music on it. I now have no need for friends or family because I have my tunes!

I have been having a great time in Edmonton with Sam Roberts(on) and with everyone else. It is nice to run away from real life for awhile, and Denise has been keeping me updated of the important stuff. (No matter what he says, I truly believe that Crazy's name is Kevin. I know it, and am not to be dissuaded from this belief)

In response to Braden's query, I am in two minds about bands "showcasing" their songs on t.v. shows. I am in favor of it because I have been introduced to so many amazing artists from various t.v. shows. Back in the day, Dawson's Creek featured a lot of "indie" musicians. I am eternally grateful to this controversial show for bringing me Sarah Slean and the beautiful/haunting "My Invitation". I also have gotten tons of great music from "Scrubs", especially Colin Hay.

However, the songs sometimes tend to be eternally tied to the t.v. show. For example, on the cover of "The Fray's" album, there is a large sticker saying "Listen for 'How to save a Life' as featured on Grey's Anatomy". Suddenly the music becomes an advertisement for the show. When it all becomes about promotion, I am a little disheartened.

I am watching "Scrubs" at this very moment - what an amazing show. By the way, if anyone feels like they need to buy me a present just 'cause I'm so cute and wonderful, Scrubs season 4 would make an ideal gift. It would really round out my collection. Thanks!

Getting out of town is good for the mind

Ladies, I have made a startling discovery!

The secret to all of the boys being hot and cold is that they are Superheroes. Yes, it is the only answer: a secret life of fighting crime and injustice makes these boys/men unable to commit. How can they date us when our lives would be put in danger by their enemies and various nemeses? (Sadly, this was the epiphany I had while sitting in Fast and Testimony meeting in the Strathcona Ward today- my spirituality is astounding!!)

Actually, I was led to this conclusion while watching "Spiderman 2" last night. Poor Mary Jane Watson is screwed over royally by Peter Parker as he alternately tells he loves her and doesn't love her. When she can't be bothered by him, he is all over her, but the minute she comes to him with her heart out, he shuts her down. Of course, she doesn't realize that he has a genuine reason for this inconsistency, and that he actually is staying away from her to protect her. So, I am going to give all of the boys I know the benefit of the doubt and say that they all have such reasons to drive us so crazy.

Denise, seriously, more stories about sweat!!

"I know what I should do but I just can't walk away."

I have a funny new game at work that is called "Let's see who can find the craziest Romance novel title". I play this game when I am shelving in fiction, and I am usually the only player. However, the other day I shared my game with Kevin (who we can be eternally grateful to for the "spicy, yet tasteful" comment). So, last night, during the slowest night of my life, I was up at cash when Kevin came up with two new titles for my list. "To tease a Texan" and "Bad Boys in Kilts". Awesome!! I then went and got my list from the back as to kill time. (Seriously, the slowest night ever. The only rush we had was a line-up of three people) Here are my favorite titles from the game so far. Please email me with your favorite one!!
1. The Mad, Bad Duke (This Kevin's self-proclaimed new nickname)
2. The bachelor preffered pastry (?)
3. Pleasured in the Billionaire's bed (Title?... or my future?...)
4. One night of Sin (Must be a short book!!)
5. Almost a Lady (Almost, but not quite, this is a smut book after all)
6. Devil takes a Bride (best husband ever!!)
7. Undead and Unwed (Are there words?)

Anyway, I should probably go and pack for my vacation tomorrow. I am glad(?) to be getting out of town for a few days. Seems like I keep making things here too dramatic when I really have the most mundane life possible. See y'all when I get back!
